We're Home!!!
Hi Family and Friends! It feels GREAT to be home!! Curt and I walked around our home today when we got home and were thankful for the pretty flowers still in bloom, our grass was green, Brittany cleaned the house for us...so it was nice and clean to come home to.....we watched a little of the athletic awards on TV and then Curt and Brittany went to bed...tomorrow is Monday!!!! I'm unpacking and washing clothes for our week ahead of us! We're not sure of our next steps....but we know God has them in order. We have a lot on our plate and decisions that need to be made soon. Our thoughts off hand are to research UCLA for regrowth of this tumor. We feel that a second surgery just declines the quality of life. So the search is on..... and we know time is a factor....he's planning to run the summer camps while he's back....so stop in and say HI!!! We'll let you know when the full pathology report comes in! Love and belief, Shari

Hi there Shari and the Condon family, I had heard about Curt through a friend-of-a-friend kind of a thing. I'm sure he doesn't remember me (I worked at a couple tennis clubs with Steve Simon back in the 70s and did just a couple things socially with Steve and Curt and some of the other Long Beach State guys..my maiden name was Knight), but I just wanted to send prayers for comfort and encouragement. My husband, Rick, is a 3-time cancer survivor (recurrent testicular) and has had it all (surgeries, radiation, chemo) over the past 13 years but God has been so good and he's still under surveillance but now 6 years past the final chemo treatments in 2001, and he's back to playing tennis with me and all the other sports he loved even despite the chemo side effects. We remember so well how scary it all was, and yet how blessed we felt, meeting so many other cancer patients along the way.. everyone had a different story to tell...one man had to have an amputation but he was so spiritually strong he inspired us all one day in the chemo waiting room, and was telling us stories about how he got himself in to be an extra in the movie "Pearl Harbor" (they needed realistic-looking amputees for the hospital scenes!!). Well, every time Rick was re-diagnosed it coincidentally was Tour de France time (how inspiring was that??), plus some of the info I read in Lance Armstrong's book helped to improve Rick's treatment plan.. and so we ended up raising $$ for the Lance Armstrong Foundation because Rick wanted to train to ride a full century in Armstrong's Ride for the Roses fundraiser 9 months after chemo, which he did (and I rode the 70-miler with my 77-year Dad, who just passed away last Labor Day after a truly wonderful life). And then so many of the cancer survivors we met there were planning to go to the Tour de France a few months after the Ride, so we did, too, with our 2 kids and my parents (we combined the trip with a pilgrimage to the site of Stalag 17, where my Dad was a WW2 POW, and retraced his 200km march to liberation at the end of the war). We kept running into these other incredible cancer survivors everywhere we went, from the mountains of Grenoble to the streets of Paris...one heartwarming reunion after another, halfway around the world, with people we knew only because of our shared challenges. Anyway, I guess my point is just to reaffirm for you both what the two of you have already so eloquently written in your posts -- that we have no idea what God has in mind, and it regularly brings me to tears the incredible, loving surprises He has for us all along even the most difficult of journeys.
Love and prayers to all the Condons, from some Fellow Travelers...Carolyn and Rick Fromm(and this was a verse that really helped right during the thick of the treatment phase: "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For ur light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Blessings and bon courage!!!
