Hi Everyone!
Curt and I went down to La Jolla yesterday to see Dr. Barnette. She was very informative and talked about a few other options. She felt Avastin and CPT-11, a combination drug and chemo, should start right away. The staff has had great results on other glioblastoma patients and felt he should try it before doing the gamma knife. Duke has sent Curt's latest MRI to Dr. Barnette and she will review it next week.....she wants to see how far the tumor has grown in the last 9 weeks....from his previous MRI in June. This will help with the decision....when and where the gamma knife needs to go in. She did mention it is growing towards the speech area of his brain. Pray that this Avastin/CPT-11 stops the growth!! This combination drug/chemo is suppose to stop the blood flow to the tumor and then the tumor begins to die off. This drug combination also does not kill the good blood cells like others do....which is a good thing!! She felt we should begin the proceedure after Curt had some lunch. So we left, got Curt a sandwich and off to Scripps Encinitas to begin the treatments. The nurses were ready for him as soon as we arrived! He began the treatments at 1:15 and finished at 6:30pm. A Long day! He will go back in 2 weeks to repeat the treatment. They told us he may have a few side affects...like nausea, headaches, and feeling tired....that actually started right away....on the way home...such a bummer!!!
He went to work this morning...our Saturday employee left him a note that she couldn't work!!!! I wanted to go in and cover but he insisted on going in! Soooo....no holding him back!! Continue to pray for strength and endurance!
Love you all, Shari
